InstallAlias XRay
- Description
- This XRay installs an alias to the specified file or folder.
- Runs As
- After XRay, Standalone XRay
- Parameters
-
- Destination: This is the name of the folder in which the alias is installed.
For special folders use the following notation: 'Axxxx' or 'Txxxx' where "A" stands for "Active" System Folder and "T" stands for "Target" System Folder. "xxxx" represents the four-letter code assigned by Apple to special folders. These include:
- Apple Menu Items: amnu
- Control Panels: ctrl
- Desktop: desk
- Extensions: extn
- Fonts: font
- Preferences: pref
- Startup Items: strt
- Shutdown Items: shut
The single quotes before and after the name are necessary when specifying special folders. For example, to name the Active Apple Menu Items folder as the destination for the alias you would use 'Aamnu'.
- Alias Name: This is the name for the alias that is installed.
- Source: This is the full path of the item to be aliased. If empty, the attached item will be used.
The InstallAlias XRay is not usually needed to create an alias file. The Make alias after installation setting for File and Folder items is sufficient in many cases. The InstallAlias allows for installing aliases from files not included in the installer and also for installing multiple aliases from the same file.
